Probably because gun ownership isn't a majority thing over here.
Admittedly, I don't read the firearms press but there was very little
Actually, I'd see prostitution as being *uncommon*. Remember, the
females are "in charge". And if landless males don't "get any" that
just explains why they are so much more agressive.
This leads to an interesting situation as it winds up with Vargr and
K'kree "territory" in *direct* contact.

My take is that once that happens, they'll forget about everything else
and go after each other.

Heck, even without an attack on the Imperium, sooner or later the
K'Kree and Vargr are going to expand to the point where they are in
Alas, DR is quite firmly in the same Universe as LoH and BC. The colony
in those books is specificly mentioned in DR.
You're assuming prostitution is something women only do when they have no
other choice. That's not always the case. Some women like the work.

I wouldn't do prostitution, actual sex for hire, but when I was younger I
did wonder if exotic dancing didn't beat typing as a way to spend 8 hours.
Now that I'm older, I wish I'd done it-- more money, more time to play
games, and I'd have made it thru school without loans.
If it's any help I've had Myth II, which uses DirectX 6, running under
NT4.0 SP4. I was using a P133 with 32MB, which I've since reinstalled
'95 on because I-War was unstable under NT :( Aside from I-War and old
DOS games I've had a much better time with NT than with '95, and I'm
even going to talk about '98.

Another nice thing about NT is that its video drivers give much better
control over refresh rates, and they seem to be more stable, as well. I
use 1024x768, and it flickers under 95 no matter what I do, but under
NT I had the refresh at 75Hz no problems, no flicker.
Some quick points that I need to make b4 the flames start landing:

1. I am in no way seeking to trash the Rebellion as a concept. When I
got
that issue of Challenge in the mail when the death of Strephon was
announced,
my hair stood on end. It was really fantastic. I'm just thinking about
doing
something different.

2. When I speak of "known space", I'm referring to the map in Library
Data A-M
in the LBBs. This shows most of the major powers (though I haven't seen
the Julian
Protectorate in that one; I have seen it elsewhere though. My research
here is ongoing).

3. Diplomacy is best played with a map board, counters, people, and
nachos!
Having played "The Man" in one convention game, the rule used by the GM was that
high officials may recognise Strephon but "normal" people would not. I assume
the GM rolled against INT whenever appropriate.

Adventure Nugget: following in the "Shoes of the Fisherman" where the Pope gets
out and about - or even just the Digest 9 adventure where "our heroes" throw a
picnic for Iphegenia - how about this: the Emperor decides to travel amonst his
people incognito, and asks the PCs to be his escorts.

You could even do this in the G:T Spinward Marches, simply replace "Strephon"
with "Varian". One of the single-player 76 Patrons is a noble who wants to visit
the seamier side of town - just do a cut-and-paste of this scenario.
Actually it was covered fairly well - I got repeated doses on the
subject from reading UK news. Perhaps the main point is that very few
people beyond gun-owners (a decided minority) - and not all of them -
thought that the restrictions were a bad idea.
No gun store with half a brain is going to sell you one. Every time I've been
at the range, the owners ALWAYS refuse to sell to Kalifornians. You need to
be a Nevada resident to buy. You can however rent one and shoot it at the
range. The sub-guns are lots of fun albeit expensive at 25 cents a pop...
I picked up a book by Pierce Askegren called Gateway to the Stars, it states
on the cover "The First Traveller Novel". Does anyone know if the other
books in this series were written and published?

It also mentions a *bonus* All-new Traveller module by Marc Miller. Which
adventure could this be? It's not Gateway to the Stars.
He's still around. Last I heard, he was putting the finishing touches on the
new stuff, then we found out that Andrew had died. Since Andrew was the guy
who wrote most of this stuff, its current statis is unknown. I *expect* them
all to be availiable around Xmas sometime, but don't quote me on it. I don't
work for Cargonaut.
